Aura of Anura

Fresh smell from the first rain Laugh of the child splashing the water Fresh color of the newly grown saplings The land that was lifeless few months back Is giggling with a sign of relief “O rain o rain The life was drain With your tipper-tap on earth I am again freed from the pain”.   What comes to your mind when you think of rain, I asked a herpetologist. Keeping silent for a few seconds his face brighten up with a huge smile and he asked me have you seen a frog? That shocked me for a while and I said who has never seen a frog? Yes I have seen many of them. He laughed and asked, then tell me what they look like...“Sticky”, “slimy”, “weird” , I said. And to this while correcting his sitting posture into a serious discussion, he said then you have never seen them. This point I knew that either I am going to be a part of laugh in his next lecture or I am going to get some serious talk. He asked me what you think of rain and I instantly replied a hot cup of tea with

Smile For The Day

“If the giver exhibits generosity, the taker can also show generosity of spirit” In this post, I will be talking about something different, not about nature or wildlife as usual, but a part of it. And that is Hospitality. The word itself comes with responsibility. Hospitality is a big part of the tourism industry, or I would say tourism starts with better hospitality. Now the question is, why have I used the term ' better hospitality'?   There is nothing as good Hospitality or bad Hospitality, but it is all upon the traveler and the host, who makes it a good or bad. The hospitality is not restricted only to resorts or four and five-star hotels, but also a place, state, or country. For example, let us say, Gujarat is known as one of the best states for its hospitality, or another example would be the travelers from XX state are most of the time annoying. So always remember, as a traveler or a host, we are representing our place or state, or country. As a traveler, we think tha

The lockdown life

Where nature was the limit………… Everyone was in panic not just us but across the whole globe people were worried to come out of their houses, those who were stuck far from their home are finding ways to go back and stay with their families so that they can be assured of their safety. Everything means of transport got cancelled, people started travelling by walk just so that they can reach home, suffering because of less or no food, and the only safe place for them is their HOME. This is not a movie line, we all know that this really happened, that we lost lakhs of precious life because of the pandemic COVID-19. Many people lost their jobs because of loss in business…..this pandemic showed us what we really never thought of. We learned how human activities are affecting nature adversely. It is also the time when we really started taking action against wildlife trading and animal trafficking.  But as we say “Bad things can also be good, if you look at the bright side”,  as people were f

Insect Mania

A NOTE TO WINGS...         What if I ask you a simple question...What is an Insect? What will be the first thing that comes to your mind?  What would be your answer? A creature with wings? An ugly creepy crawler? A nuisance creating insects? Mosquito? Butterflies? Just want to stay away from them? I don't like them?  It's a long list of answers when I generally ask someone about insects. During my Night walks where I basically take my guests in search of nocturnal insects, the first thing I ask is why you booked for this activity? Or are you interested in Insects? And the most common answer I get is NO...We just want to see them but from a distance. Have you ever tried to see the world from a different view? Like what it looks like from top of the tree or from ground? Or have you ever thought of spending most of your life inside a ball of leaf or in the mud. Well the question is have you ever tried to see the world from the eyes of an insect, or h

Wood Wide Web

Science behind the talking trees. Until now very few people have understood that apart from animals other living things can also communicate. Communication is not about language neither about ability to speak. Communication is a way to spread messages, it has many forms, and is used by every living species on earth in different ways. But now the debate is whether plants really communicate? Do they have a language of their own? Do they communicate just within the plant species or with other animals too? The Talking Tree Trees were always known for their ability to produce food, timber, and other beneficiary products for human uses. We always study them in the category of living things but treat them as non living. It is when we started studying about what exactly lying below was a huge secret of underworlds of trees. Hidden beneath the soil there is a labyrinth of millions of fungal connections within the roots. We call this network a wood-wide web. Earlier we focused on the process o
